German travel demand is approaching 2019.
According to the information obtained from the May analysis of the tourism statistics center Tourism Databank in Germany, reservations are very close to 2019 levels. Mediterranean destinations, especially Turkey and Spain, lead the travel demand, which is only 13 percent below 2019 sales. There is a rise in Greece and Egypt.
German vacationer spending in 2022
In May 2022 alone, Germans booked travel bookings worth around €1.8 billion, while the Canary Islands and Balearic Islands remain tops, according to data from agencies, tour operators and OTAs by Travel Data + Analytics. Holidays sold in May are 71 percent more than in 2019.
Turkey holiday demand from Germany in 2022
While the high demand for Turkey was reflected in the figures, reservations increased by 27 percent compared to April, reaching 21 percent of the sector’s turnover. After the long-haul destinations of the Dominican Republic and Maldives, Turkey showed the highest growth compared to 2019. It also showed strong growth in Bulgaria, Croatia and Tunisia compared to the previous month.
