ForwardKeys announced that Turkey and Greece passed 2019 in international flights and international visitor entries this summer.
Turkey and Greece on Summer 2022 Flights
According to data from travel analytics firm ForwardKeys, Turkey and Greece became Europe’s leaders with departures for European destinations in July and August, corresponding to 2019 levels. Turkey and Greece exceeded the pre-pandemic levels of international visitor arrivals by 9 percent and 2 percent, respectively.
Top performing city destinations
At the top of the list of best performing city destinations was Istanbul, which recorded an increase of 2 percent. Athens followed with a 7 percent decline.
According to ForwardKeys, Turkey’s strong performance was driven by the continued decline in the value of the Turkish lira and its exposure to the Russian market, where direct flights to most of Europe are banned.
