TURKSTAT announced the Tourism Statistics 3rd Quarter results of 2022, updated with new data sources. Accordingly, tourism revenues increased by 27% and reached 17.9 billion dollars.

As a result of the studies carried out in cooperation with the Turkish Statistical Institute, the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Council of Higher Education, the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey and the Interbank Card Center, the data were announced as the Exiting Visitors Survey.
Tourism revenue increased by 27.1%
Tourism income is in the III. increased by 27.1% in the quarter compared to the same quarter of the previous year and became 17 billion 952 million 361 thousand dollars.
12 billion 562 million 557 thousand dollars of the expenditures made in this quarter was personal expenditures and 5 billion 389 million 804 thousand dollars was package tour expenditures.
The average spend per night by departing visitors was $89.
Package tour expenditures (the remaining share in our country) increased by 110.5%, expenditures on sports, education and culture increased by 81.7%, and international transportation expenditures increased by 35.7%.
Coming purposes
In this quarter, the visitors visited our country with 75.1% mostly for “touring, entertainment, sports and cultural activities”. “Visiting relatives and friends” took the second place with 17.8%, and “shopping” took the third place with 2.6%. Citizens residing abroad, on the other hand, came to our country mostly for the purpose of “visiting relatives and friends” with 64.5%.
Tourism expense
Tourism expenditure, which consists of the expenditures of our citizens residing in the country and visiting other countries, increased by 89.3% compared to the same quarter of the previous year and became 1 billion 106 million 285 thousand dollars. 907 million 483 thousand dollars of this was personal and 198 million 803 thousand dollars was package tour expenses.
The number of citizens visiting abroad in this quarter increased by 137.3% compared to the same quarter of the previous year and became 2 million 72 thousand 116 people. Their average expenditure per person was $534.
