Tourist statistics based on mobile phone

The Spanish National Institute of Statistics (INE) announced the results of the study, which obtained information about the tourists coming to Spain from the location of their mobile phones, with data provided by the three major mobile operators (Movistar, Vodafone and Orange.).

First results

In April 2022, new mobile-based statistics revealed that the number of foreign tourists reached 5.1 million, an increase of 191.2% compared to the same month of 2021. The number of overnight stays increased by 172.2% to 43 million. The average length of stay was also 8.5 days, down 6.6%.

With more than one million tourists, the United Kingdom takes the lead, respectively; France and Germany followed suit.

Tourists chose Barcelona as their main destination, followed by Madrid and Palma.
