According to the data received by the Tourism Databank, the tourism statistics center, by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the number of tourists visiting Istanbul in the January-September period of 2022 increased by 102% from 5.8 million to 11.8 million. The city hosted 11.3 million tourists in 2019.

Situation in Istanbul’s main markets

In 2022, in Istanbul, which received the most tourists in Turkey, the most tourists were obtained from Russia, which reached 971 thousand. 950 thousand people were reached from Germany, their second largest market, and 845 thousand people from Iran. They were followed by the USA, England, France, Iraq and Kuwait. Ukraine was the only major market in Istanbul tourism, which contracted by 36 percent.
