How many museums are there in Turkey?

TURKSTAT announced the Cultural Heritage statistics for 2021. Accordingly, the number of museums visited by foreign and domestic travelers coming to Turkey on holiday tours increased by 5.1% in 2021, reaching 519.
210 of the museums are under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and 309 of them are private enterprises. On the other hand, the number of archaeological sites was 143.

Number of works in museums

While the number of works in our country’s museums is 3 million 719 thousand 409, 3 million 301 thousand 789 are in the museums affiliated to the Ministry and 417 thousand 620 are in private museums.

Number of visitors to museums and ruins

In 2021, 23 million 245 thousand 317 visitors entered Turkey’s museums and ruins. The number of visitors to paid museums and ruins affiliated to the Ministry was 9 million 672 thousand 796.
The number of private museum visitors was 6 million 609 thousand 937.
In 2021, 362 million 270 thousand 93 TL income was obtained from the visits to the places affiliated to the Ministry.
